House Bill Guts Wildlife Protection In Search of Water

A "drought relief" bill proposed in the House (HR 3964) would drain California rivers dry, amounting to an enormous water grab.

The bill would permanently remove protections for the state's rivers and wildlife, while threatening thousands of jobs that depend on healthy fisheries. The proposed legislation would also preempt state laws requiring the restoration of the San Joaquin River, which is critical to the health of the entire Bay Delta. For all these reasons Gov. Jerry Brown and CA's two U.S. senators oppose the bill, along with fishermen and conservation groups.
