Pres Obama Can Deny Knox Extradition To Italy

Amanda Knox, Italy, justice, murder, conviction, extradition, treaty

Regarding the shocking miscarriage of justice in the Amanda Knox case, here's my take after reading the extradition treaty with Italy, (Treaty Doc. 98, October 13, 1983 [1983 U.S.T. LEXIS 421])

President Obama has authority under this treaty to summarily deny this request.

As set forth in Article X, Paragraph 5, "If the person sought has been convicted in absentia or in contumacy, all issues relating to this aspect of the request shall be decided by the Executive Authority of the United States or the competent authorities of Italy."
