Eastern Sports Outdoor Show Bans Assault Rifles, Cancels Show

The largest outdoor sportsman show in North America, the Eastern Sports & Outdoor Show, scheduled to run Feb. 2-10 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center in Harrisburg, will be postponed this year due to the controversy over assault weapons.

The show organizer, Reed Exhibitions, has decided to postpone the event after its decision to limit the sale and display of “modern sporting rifles,” also called assault weapons, caused the NRA, and other pro-gun extremist groups to announce a boycott of the show, and major firearms retailer Cabela decided to pull out of the show. Apparently, the revenue from assault rifles is important enough that Cabela has taken a stand in favor of combat weapons in civilian hands.

"Our original decision not to include certain products in the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show this year was made in order to preserve the event's historical focus on the hunting and fishing traditions enjoyed by American families," Chet Burchett, Reed Exhibitions' president for the Americas, said in the statement on the website.

I, for one, feel nothing but respect for this organization's stand that weapons designed after combat weapons have no place in sports.
